10 Reasons To Play GTA Online This Weekend

10 Reasons To Play GTA Online This Weekend

The Grand Theft Auto V Freemode Events for GTA Online have officially arrived. It’s time to dust off your copy of the open-world adventure and dive right into the free content Rockstar has provided for their flagship title. We couldn’t be more geeked about the free update and plans are already in place to energize our weekend with some much need rowdiness within the city of San Andreas. For those of you not convinced that the new content is worth your time, I’ve taken the liberty to provide you with 10 reasons as to why you should join us this weekend for GTA Online.

#10: No Loading Screens or Lobbies

#10: No Loading Screens or Lobbies

I can’t truly express how much loading screens boil my blood and grind my gears without being ousted by my stellar Editor-in-Chief for conduct detrimental to the organization. It’s typical for someone from my generation to have such quarrels with loading screens and host lobbies, because I’ve spent a great deal of time enchained in their miserable grasp as a youth. Believe it or not, I’m a rather patience dude, but for whatever reason, waiting on a game to load sends me into a fury. Maybe it’s because I value my time more these days or love playing games more. Regardless, the new Freemode events won’t bog you down with ridiculous load times.

#9: Criminal Damage

#9: Criminal Damage

If you’re someone who can’t stand pesky cops ruining all the fun, then this game mode is exactly what you’re looking for. In Criminal Damage, you pick your favorite piece of heavy artillery and lay waste to anything in sight. The best part about this mode, your wanted level stays unchanged as you tear up the town with everything you’ve got. Players can battle against one another, seeing who can deliver the most property damage by causing the most destruction. Happy destroying, guys!

#8: Hold the Wheel

#8: Hold the Wheel

Perhaps the most hilarious mode offered within the new update, Hold the Wheel, puts players in control of GTA’s slowest vehicles while other players attempt to jack their ride or kill them. Yeah, we’re talking about the Sanchez and the classy Golf Cart for this wild ride. Drivers can ride solo or team up with a buddy and attempt to escape danger until time runs out. Players will earn more GTA$ if they complete the event solo, but death is pretty much inevitable if you’re alone. I can’t help but think that this game mode will definitely provide hours of hilarious fun.

#7: Checkpoint Challenge

#7: Checkpoint Challenge

Here’s a pretty cool game mode for more casual and lighthearted GTA V fans. Believe me, I get it. Sometimes you just want to cruise the streets of San Andreas without getting into a gun battle. There’s nothing wrong with a stroll. Checkpoint Challenge gives you just that, good wholesome racing without needing to plaster your friend’s brains on the dashboard of their new ride. Players will race in cars, boats, and planes across the entire portion of southern San Andreas, capturing various checkpoints in an effort to beat out every other racer for title of top cheese.

#6: Freemode Challenges

#6: Freemode Challenges

This set of 19 challenges is a nice alternative to the high pumping action contained within the other game modes. Players will face one another in a series of questionable mini contests that will most certainly spark fond memories of your college days. See who can perform the longest and furthest jump, who can throw themselves off the highest peak without dying, who can jump out of an airplane or helicopter and plunge the farthest before pulling their chute, and several others that include questionable judgment. Earn GTA$ and RP rewards for your outright recklessness.

#5: Cross the Line: Anniversary Mode 1

#5: Cross the Line: Anniversary Mode 1

Cross the Line is one of two anniversary modes offered within the Freemode events update. This offering is for the more audacious and brash players that love to bust in, guns blazing. Heavily-armed squads of players will work to take down the opposition by penetrating their opponent’s territory in order to claim victory. Players will need to get their entire team across the neutral zone in order to be awarded top squad. The top three finishers will take home GTA$ and RP rewards. Even if your team absolutely sucks dust, you’ll be ok in the end.

#4: Hunting Pack: Anniversary Mode 2

#4: Hunting Pack: Anniversary Mode 2

The second anniversary mode comes in at number 4 and for good reason. Hunting Pack challenges you and your closest GTA V allies to deliver a high priority vehicle, most likely containing drugs, while your opponents work to take you down. To make matters worse, your escort vehicle is rigged to explode if it drops below the minimum speed limit. You can finally recreate Keanu Reeves’ greatest performance in Speed and Speed 2 – don’t blow up the bus, kids!

#3: Hunt the Beast

#3: Hunt the Beast

The title says it all. Players are instantly transformed into the Beast, who ironically looks like early 80’s Michael Jackson from the Thriller video in Rockstar’s promo photo, trying to flee the relentless pursuit of fellow players looking to make sandwiches out of your back side. You can finally feel what it’s like to be Lance Armstrong, as the player controlling the Beast will instantly become strong, faster, and much hairier version of their character. You could almost say your character was injected with some type of synthetic enhancement, almost.  Collect all ten checkpoints before the group of opponents stuffs and mounts you above a fireplace in some creepy old mansion up north.

#2: Hot Property

#2: Hot Property

This game mode is totally awesome and finally lets players go all Lufthansa Heist on GTA V. Grab the briefcase and make a dash for safety as you utilize the entire map of San Andreas and try to hold onto the goods. Grab a motorcycle, boat, car, or airplane and outrun your opponents for as long as possible. You can finally experience the feeling of being on the run, without the unfortunately side-effects. Become one of the three players who hold the briefcase the longest for a chance to score GTA$ and RP bonuses. Grab that briefcase like you stole it and camp out in the woods with your old pal Smokey the Bear.

#1: Cash Money

#1: Cash Money

Everyone needs a little love in their lives every now and then. Not only are the new Freemode events available, but players can get an in-game cash bonus of GTA$50,000 and an exclusive Vapid t-shirt. No more robbing old ladies on the street corner for weapon upgrades, because Rockstar has you covered. All you need to do is complete any of the 5 brand new GTA Online Freemode Events before Sunday, September 20. See why it’s the perfect time to jump back into GTA V and grab some easy cash?
