7 Spooky Halloween Mods for Skyrim You Gotta’ Play

7 Spooky Halloween Mods for Skyrim You Gotta’ Play

Just because you’ve gotten older doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten how to have fun. You’ve realized there are better ways to enjoy yourself than running around causing trouble and begging for candy all night. That, or authority figures made you realize you’re a little too mature for that. That doesn’t mean you have to abandon creepy fun. It means you get a little more creative and explore your favorite virtual world, Skyrim , with the power of festive mods. With these fan-created endeavors, people can enjoy spooky or ridiculous bonuses that enhance their experience and make a four-year-old game feel new again.

Hamvir the Friendly Ghost

Hamvir the Friendly Ghost

Know what’s better than an ordinary follower? A ghostly guy who’s glad to be your guard. Jokerine’s Hamvir the Ghost Follower adds a new character to Hamvir’s Rest near Whiterun. You can recruit this spirit with this Skyrim mod and enjoy his special perks. He takes half-damage from attacks, so he won’t die (again) easily, and also has Light Foot, Muffled Movement, and Silence.

The Walking Dead Overrun Skyrim

The Walking Dead Overrun Skyrim

Zombies are everywhere, and Skyrim is no exception. There are ghosts, skeletons, revenants, draugrs, and more. But they’re used in moderation and aren’t typical zombies. Sp0ckrates’ Skyrim’s Walking Dead mod changes all of the harmless woodland creatures, like foxes, mudcrabs, and rabbits into altered draugrs. They look different than usual, are leveled, and each one animal could end up being replaced by between 1-12 of draugrs with this mod, based on your level. If you’re at level 60 or higher, you’ll face 12 undead with werewolves’ attacks at a time!

Everyone Needs a Pumpkin

Everyone Needs a Pumpkin

You’ve already built up some ambiance with Skyrim zombies and a ghost follower. Time to crank it up a notch with pumpkins. Carved pumpkins, uncarved pumpkins, it doesn’t matter. You need some of these fruits scattered around your towns. With Deandra’s Halloween in Skyrim – Even More Pumpkins mod , you’ll get exactly that. You could even make a game out of finding and counting all the pumpkin decorations. Good luck with that, though, as the mod adds over 400 as decorations around the world, as well as pumpkin patches where you can harvest, well, I don’t think I have to tell you what you’ll find there.

Explore a Haunted House

Explore a Haunted House

Haunted houses are a great way to spend Halloween in the real world, so why not go through one in Skyrim, too? Except this mod doesn’t add an ordinary haunted house. Ambria’s House of Corpses adds a new dungeon near Whiterun. Part of the reason it’s scary is because it involves skeletons, flaming skeletons, and Jack-o’-Lanterns. It’s also pretty terrifying due to the challenge. It’s a high level dungeon for people who’ve completed the main game and Dawnguard expansion, so don’t try to be the Pumpkin King unless you’re sure you’re ready.

The Mighty Chicken

Halloween doesn’t have to be scary. It can be silly too. That’s the whole “trick” part of the thing. Except Dafini’s Skyrim Chicken Weaponry mod is more of a treat than a trick. People now have a reason to kill chickens beyond using their meat for food. You can collect the meat, take it to cooking pot, and craft weapons like swords, axes, knives, and bows. Good cluck with that!

Are You a Dragonborn or a Wizard

Are You a Dragonborn or a Wizard

This is a big one. Magic is a big part of Skyrim, and it’s totally possible for you to already have a character who happens to be a wizard or witch. But, wouldn’t it be great to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry instead of the College of Winterhold? You can with Plamplop’s Hogwarts mod . This is actually a huge mod with an auror follower in Whiterun who will teleport you to the Battle of Hogwarts from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. You can buy a wand from Ollivander to use in the fight, where you’ll either side with the aurors or Voldemort’s Death Eaters.

An “Epic” Overhaul

An “Epic” Overhaul

If you really want to go all out for Halloween in Skyrim this year, there’s one mod to turn to. Every year, Tentain has released an Epic Halloween Overhaul mod for the game. What does it give you? It’s better to ask what it doesn’t do, since installing it completely changes your virtual world into a weird wonderland. It has a custom soundtrack and original voice acting to accompany Whiterun quests. Cities are decorated and have new NPCs for players to find and talk to. Check every nook and cranny, because there are new dungeons too, some with original enemies inside. You can even don some new equipment if you want to fit in. Think of it as going all in on Halloween this year in the game.
