7 Games That’ll Merry Up Your Christmas Season

7 Games That’ll Merry Up Your Christmas Season

How do you celebrate the ho-ho-holidays? Do you spend time with family? Is there a seasonal party with friends? Or, do you hunker down in front of your TV and enjoy some video games? All three are valid, especially if you find a way to combine family, friends, and games. If you want to really go all out, then you also find games that suit the occasion. Fortunately, there are plenty of titles that get festive. These seven are some of the ones that best support the Christmas spirit.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4

Let’s start with something recent. Fallout 4 may be set in a world where the worst thing ever happened, but that doesn’t mean everything is dark and bleak. After all, we saw Halloween decorations in Sanctuary at the start of the game. When Christmas rolls around, the people of Diamond City get into the holiday spirit. Trees go up in the settlement, as do sparkling lights. It’s all very festive. This event goes by in-game dates, and it’s October 23 when the game begins. Keep that in mind if you want to see the sparkling lights in the city.

Minecraft

Minecraft

Every year, Minecraft changes for the holidays. From December 24-26, all chests instead look like presents. Which makes sense, because both things have happy surprises inside. Why not make them look a little different for the holidays? It’s a minor alteration, but at least you have a few days to enjoy it in the game. Because really, how many people have time to play older games on a holiday? You’re rushing to play those new games you just got instead!

Cave Story

Cave Story

Ever played Cave Story , a Pixel Metroidvania that’s appeared on PCs and the 3DS, on Christmas? You should. The newer version of the game keeps track of the date. Show up on the special occasion and everyone is dressed for the event. Quote looks like a reindeer in a Santa suit, Balrog appears to be a giant present, Mimiga wear holiday sweaters, and festive lights and decorations are everywhere. A lot of pixel art went into this one-day event.

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4

Speaking of special events, did you know Battlefield 4 celebrates Christmas too? Even war can take a holiday. If you go to grab ammo, you’ll be grabbing a nicely wrapped present instead. Want to look different? Put on a reindeer, Santa, or snowman mask. It’s a fun bonus for people who take the time to enjoy the game online on Christmas.

Terraria

Terraria

Yes, Terraria celebrates Christmas, just like Minecraft . Its yuletide event is more fun, though, because there’s much more to enjoy. Starting on December 15 and running until December 31, all kinds of magical things happen. Rabbits can appear in Santa costumes. You might find an Elfa pet, a little dude that looks like Santa’s helper. Slimes are wrapped up like presents. Enemies even drop presents, which can contain unique items or building materials. Vendors sell special hats, paintings, and wallpapers. Plus, if you’re playing on hard mode and summon the Frost Legion with a snow globe, you might see Santa after you win.

Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto Online

Do you know what Rockstar Games does every year for GTA Online ? It gives people a Festive Surprise. Last year added 4 cars, 90 pieces of clothing, 5 masks, 30 tattoos, snowball fights, and daily crate drops with different items running from December 18 until January 5. Some hackers have already found things that suggest a 2015 Festive Surprise could drop any day, so make sure you log into GTA Online every day for the next two weeks or so you don’t miss out on this year’s fun.

Saints Row IV

Saints Row IV
