Top 10 Reasons We Love Harley Quinn

Top 10 Reasons We Love Harley Quinn

It seems like DC’s poster girl, Harley Quinn, just keeps getting more popular. She’s been quietly taking over the scene since appearing on Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 and then in comic book form a year later in The Batman Adventures #12. Now she’s been nominated for a GLAAD award – the organization’s annual recognition of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters in media. Her non-monogamous relationship with the lovely Poison Ivy, long a popular theory with fans, is now canon. That’s not the only reason why we enjoy Harley, and her love piece on CheatCC is long overdue. Let’s take a look at the top ten reasons she’s an awesome character.

That’s Dr. Quinn to You

That’s Dr. Quinn to You

Harley Quinn’s character originally started out as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatric intern working at Arkham Asylum. In fact, before Quinn was the total epic character that she is today, she was a model citizen with a decorated gymnastics career at Gotham University. Quinn may now be one of the best villains of all time, but at one point she was a leather patch-sporting nerd with a deep thirst for knowledge.

Toxic Immunity

Toxic Immunity

Thanks to her old pal and sometime girlfriend Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn possesses an immunity to a wide range of toxins. Not only does she have the brains, but she also has the brawn. Sure, we can thank Poison Ivy for the extra kick, but Quinn is a total boss regardless.

She’s Such a Comedian

She’s Such a Comedian

Harley Quinn is probably one of the more hilarious characters that has ever been created. Not only are her one-liners pure gold in her animated bits but her comic book quotes are even better. Take a gander at her early stuff and you’ll see the true evolution of Harley Quinn and her twisted humor.

She’s Quick to Knock Your Teeth Out

Harley might be most known for her quick wit and cute personality, but there’s a good reason she carries that baseball bat and oversized mallet around. Quinn has also been known to utilize her gymnastic prowess when duking it out, especially when she’s going toe-to-toe with Gotham’s great superhero.

Girl Power

She may have evolved from an innocent post-doctoral intern into a full-fledged psychopath, but her direct impact on the gender gap in comic books is both substantial and undeniable. Quinn’s rise has paved a path for women from all walks of life to further embrace the comic book world. Her girl power is on full display in 2016.

Batman Granted Her Parole

Batman Granted Her Parole

Yep, you read that one correctly. Batman did indeed grant Ms. Harley Quinn parole back in the early 90’s. She managed to get herself locked up for crimes relating to Mr. J. Fortunately for her, she was able to persuade the baddest good guy of all time to let her off easy – Looks like the joke is on you, Batman.

Mom Still Brings the Pain

Mom Still Brings the Pain

One of the more shocking moments in Quinn’s short existence came during the comic book series Injustice: Gods Among Us , where she actually reveals her daughter Lucy. Yep, the Joker is a father, and the mother is none other than Harley Quinn.

The Beat of Her Own Drum

The Beat of Her Own Drum

One of the more admirable parts to Harley Quinn’s character, if that’s even possible in a dark way, is that she truly walks to the beat of her own drum. No one is going to tell her otherwise and she certainly doesn’t need to be propped up by any strong male characters to survive. I think this is why people gravitate towards her so much – long live the independent female superheroes – and anti-heroes.

The Evolution

The Evolution

Harley has managed to evolve from a once temporary character that was marked with a short lifespan back in 1992 to one of the most popular characters in the history of comic books. Not only has she personally evolved from Dr. Quinzel to the women we now know today, but she’s also managed to be a driving force in carrying DC into the powerhouse that it is today.

She Brings Out the Best in the Worst of Us

She Brings Out the Best in the Worst of Us

Perhaps the most underrated aspect about Harley Quinn is her ability to show the world that Joker isn’t a complete psychotic maniac. There are several instances where the Joker lets his guard down around Quinn and we see an unfamiliar side to the man in purple. It’s uncomfortable and awkward to see him in this light but a true testament to who Harley Quinn is and her profound impact on just about everything she’s exposed to.
