10 Things That Make Mortal Kombat XL Extra Large

10 Things That Make Mortal Kombat XL Extra Large

Today is a huge day for Mortal Kombat fans. You could even call it extra large. That’s because the ultimate version of Mortal Kombat X has arrived in-stores. It’s dubbed Mortal Kombat XL , and never before has a title been so accurate. People with PlayStation 4s and Xbox Ones will be getting the ultimate edition of this game and trust me, it’s worth it.

Cosplay Pack

Cosplay Pack

Did you pre-order Mortal Kombat XL ? Well, then you’re getting some special costumes! People who opted in to this PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game ahead of time will be able to dress Cassie Cage as Sub-Zero and Jacqui Briggs as Scorpion. Get over here, costumes!

Living Towers

Living Towers

With Mortal Kombat , Towers are a way of life. You go into a game, fights are organized in tower, and you face enemy after enemy in an attempt to prove you’re the best. These return in Mortal Kombat XL with Living Towers that change every hour, every day, or every six days. Even though it’s online only, it’s a fun way to earn coins, icons, and modifiers by testing your might.

Faction Wars

Faction Wars

Story-wise, there are a lot of different players in Mortal Kombat XL . Each one is tied to his or her own side. When you begin Mortal Kombat X , you can decide to side with the Black Dragon, Brotherhood of Shadows, Lin Kuei, Special Forces, or White Lotus. This lets you particpate in Faction Wars, earning special awards for your contributions each week. It’s the only way you can get a Faction Kill, and you know you need all the special moves you can get in this game!

Character Variations

Character Variations

Mortal Kombat X didn’t have the largest roster in the series at launch, as 24 characters were on the disc, but it’s more than made up for that with not only the DLC, but also the character variations. In this entry, every character has three variations that slightly change how they look and play. Depending on which customization option you choose, you’ll get different moves to use. It’s like a whole new world opens up for every match!

So Many Skins

So Many Skins

Mortal Kombat XL is packed with alternate character designs. You get over 25 extra character skins total, all of which were originally available as DLC. To be more specific, there’s an Apocalypse Pack, Blue Steel Sub-Zero, Brazil Pack, Horror Pack, two Klassic Packs, Kold War Pack, Kold War Scorpion, Samurai Pack. That’s not counting the new Medieval Pack that adds an additional 3 costumes for free. Everybody gets whole new looks.

An Homage to the First Mortal Kombat

An Homage to the First Mortal Kombat

In the first Mortal Kombat game, Reptile was the secret character. Mortal Kombat X references that with a special, hidden fight against him. First, you need to go to the Mortal Kombat 1 Premiere Living Tower. There, you’ll fight only characters from the first game. In the sixth battle, you have to win a Flawless Victory and perform a Fatality or Brutality on your opponent. Get all the steps right, and Reptile challenges you!

Secret Stuff

Secret Stuff

Every Mortal Kombat game has its secrets. I mean, we only just discovered hidden menus in the first three games . Of course Mortal Kombat X has these things too. You can unlock Shinnok, a hidden character, by beating the Story Mode. Visiting specific Krypt coordiates gives you the Dead Woods, Kuantan Palace, and Outworld Marketplace stages. Plus, there are special Krypt areas you can find by collecting items at specific coordinates. Don’t keep these secrets secret!

Extra Klassic Characters

Extra Klassic Characters

While Mortal Kombat X had a pretty big cast of 24 fighters at launch, a lot of characters from previous games didn’t make it in. The DLC released has remedied that, adding classic characters like Bo’ Rai Cho, Goro, Tanya, Tremor, and Tri-Borg. OK, technically Tremor and Tri-Borg are “new,” since Tremor only made a cameo appearance in the PlayStation Vita’s Challenge Mode and Tri-Borg is a conglomeration of the series’ robot characters, but they’re still rather familiar faces.

Guest Characters

Guest Characters

The 2011 version of Mortal Kombat did something really cool. It introduced guest stars to the series, making A Nightmare on Elm Street ‘s Freddy Krueger part of the cast. Mortal Kombat X took that idea even further by adding four more guests, Alien ‘s Xenomorph, Friday the 13th ‘s Jason Voorhees, Predator ‘s Predator, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ‘s Leatherface. All four of these scary individuals were originally DLC, but are immediately available in Mortal Kombat XL .

Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X

This is the most important thing you’re getting in Mortal Kombat XL – the actual game! The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games are incredible, with a strong cast of characters that have diverse and interesting movesets, lots of modes to enjoy, a strong online community for people who happen to be feeling competitive, and the best looking game in the series yet. While all of those extra bells and whistles the DLC brings are great, the best part of Mortal Kombat XL is Mortal Kombat X being recognized for the great game it is again.
