10 Batman v Superman Facts You Need Before Seeing the Flick

10 Batman v Superman Facts You Need Before Seeing the Flick

My fellow comic book nerds unite – Batman vs. Superman is finally here! Now, before your collective heads explode from realizing that two of the greatest super heroes of all time are finally going to thrown down on-screen, let me drop some serious DC knowledge.  Have a gander at the 10 things you need to know about Batman and Superman before seeing these two gents duke it out in an old-fashioned game of epic fisticuffs.

Is That an Alien Spacecraft?

Is That an Alien Spacecraft?

During the filming of Batman Begins in Chicago during the summer of 2004, some confused motorist plowed his car directly into the Batmobile because he thought it was an alien spacecraft. I don’t know if I’m more concerned about this dude thinking the Batmobile was an alien ship or about the fact that he made up his mind to go kamikaze in hopes of saving the human race.

Why Must We Fight?

Why Must We Fight?

Some of you might be wondering why the heck Batman and Superman are slated to beat the tar out of each other this coming weekend. The good news is DC didn’t throw up some lame storyline in an attempt to set a stage for this epic brawl. Rather, the setup actually make a lot of sense as Batman is forced to confront Superman after Superman mopped the floor, or in the case an entire metropolis, with General Zod. Apparently one of those building that got leveled in the General Zod fight was owned by Wayne industries, aka Batman, along with a whole flock of employees that suffered rather terrible deaths.

No More of That Bale Guy

No More of That Bale Guy

The former Batman, Christian Bale, apparently agreed to play the famed superhero but on one condition – Robin wouldn’t make an appearance at all during the trilogy. Either this guy has some serious self-confidence issues or he really hates those yellow tights. I’m pretty sure he was the only guy cheering when DC killed Robin off for good in episode 8 of Batman Incorporated … but he’s gone now as Ben Affleck takes up the Bat-mantle.

Batarangs

Batarangs

Perhaps one of Batman’s coolest gadgets will take center stage in the new film. I’m of course talking about the Batarang and all of it atmosphere-splitting greatness. Batman will finally get to justify that enormous utility bet when he whips out a Batarang to aid him in his quest to defeat that chiseled jaw known as Superman.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

Yes, the ageless Wonder Woman is said to be included in this year’s release but details regarding her role are few and far between. The only little bit of knowledge that we have about the famous Amazon is that she’s got a decent part in the film and she’s apparently a few hundred years old. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with being old and included.

Lex

Lex

Lex Luthor is back and he seems more insane than ever. It’s intriguing to see that one of Superman’s worst enemies is taking center stage in this one because these two rocking superheroes can’t possibly fight for 2-3 hours straight. Or could they? No, they definitely can’t, and for reasons that would further expose the nature of my true nerd. All you need to know is Lex is back and he’s due for a face beating.

An Entirely New Film

An Entirely New Film

This is a difficult concept for some fans to grasp, and for good reason, but Batman vs. Superman is definitely not a sequel to Man of Steel . The confusion is certainly understandable, especially because the events lead directly into this new film, but Batman vs. Superman is a standalone film and should be looked at more as a prequel to Justice League than anything.

This Isn’t The First Time

This Isn’t The First Time

Don’t get it twisted, my friends. This is definitely not the first time Batman and Superman have gone toe-to-toe. In fact, these two brutes battled during Frank Miller’s graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns . Batman’s new gear has a striking resemblance to Miller’s novel but the reasons for why the two are fighting remain different.

Justice League

Justice League

Speaking of the Justice League, it appears that several of the upcoming film’s heroes will be featured in Batman vs. Superman . This decision makes sense from a moviegoer’s standpoint as it will help ease folks into these brand new characters rather than hoping they’ve read the comic books in the past. Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg are just a few names that have popped up – let’s hope we’ll see a few more coming Friday.

We Understand You, Henry

We Understand You, Henry

Henry Cavill nearly missed the casting call for Superman because he was knee-deep in the World of Warcraft slaying noobs like it was going out of style. Thankfully our shredded friend made the call because I for one am not prepared to live out another Dean Cain-type Superman moment. No offense Dean, but you were probably better off being Clark Kent, tax professional and part-time librarian and not Clark Kent, disguised superhero and total boss.
