People in the industry really get into April Fool’s Day. Developers and publishers go all out with little jokes and gags to try and fool their devoted fans. And we eat it up, because they’re clever and related to our favorite games. A lot of awesome pranks were pulled on April 1, 2016, but these five were the best of the best.
SnoopaVision
Snoop Dogg is great. Especially his Planet Snoop and Plizzanet Earth web series, which offer his commentary on nature videos. YouTube took it a step further on April Fools’ Day, suggesting people could enter into SnoopaVision, which would allow you to watch any YouTube video in 360 degrees with Snoop Dogg at your side. Snoop Dogg is the best.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’s Roach DLC
Like your animal sidekicks talking? CD Projekt Red’s April Fools’ Day prank was $4.99 Roach DLC for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (Complete with sticker)! It would allegedly give Roach actual dialogue. What really made this joke shine was a fake documentary that discussed Roach and the add-on.
Dark Souls III – The Movie
Bandai Namco’s Dark Souls III – The Movie was great due to the authenticity. It’s a trailer cut to look like the game is a horror movie from the 1980’s. It even says it’ll be released on VHS tapes on April 12, the day the game’s coming out. And how about that narrator? It’s gold. Make sure you check out the fake product page too!
Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3
What was your favorite part about any Sonic the Hedgehog game with Big the Cat in it? Was it fishing? I bet it was fishing. Sega gets that, so the company promoted the fan-made Big’s Big Fishing Adventure 3 for people to play. You can actually play this visual novel game in your browser . Star Wars: Fury of Maul
IGN ‘s prank saying Netflix would get a Star Wars original series was especially ingenious, because it was so real. There have been Star Wars shows available to stream before. Star Wars: Fury of Maul could have happened. It would have been something we wanted. It’s the sort of prank that makes you feel horrible and great at the same time, because it got you and was so well executed.
