Top 10 Awesome Overwatch Characters

Top 10 Awesome Overwatch Characters

Overwatch has a massive cast. There are 21 characters available at launch. Each one of them is ready to be used and enjoyed. But, as is common with such games with a robust roster, some characters stand out. While skill plays a huge part in how good or bad a character is, some of the men and women here are pretty amazing no matter who uses them.

10. Bastion

10. Bastion

We’re going to start with an immovable wall. Well, nearly immovable. If your team is on defense in Overwatch , you want someone playing Bastion on your side. He’s easy to play and can stand up to assaults on his own with no aid, in case you need him to stand guard somewhere. His Self-Repair ability heals 25% of his health per second. Set him up in his Sentry configuration to make him a stationary unit with 200 ammo he can fire off at 30 rounds per second, be ready to heal, and you’ll be able to stand against most assaults.

9. Hanzo

9. Hanzo

Hanzo is solid. He’s a defensive Overwatch hero who also works well as a sniper. This means you can go ahead and occasionally put him in harm’s way and survive, though you don’t want him in a position where he’ll be outnumbered or surrounded by swifter characters. You might want to employ him as a scout. Use Sonic Arrow to deduce where enemies lie ahead. Then, use Scatter Arrow on multiple targets ahead of him or charge up a Dragonshot to take out anyone who dares think he or she can hide from Hanzo.

8. D.Va

8. D.Va

Overwatch ’s D.Va is complicated. She’s supposed to be a tank, but she’s also a glass cannon. She can deal tons of damage, but can’t always take it. It all depends on whether she’s in her mech or not. While it’s nice to have that last ditch option, where you can be in or out, you have to be very careful with her. It takes time to learn to use D.Va effectively. You want to get in an enemy’s face with the Boosters, put up the Defense Matrix to protect her, use Fusion Cannons to deal damage, Self Destruct for massive damage, then run away and use the Light Gun until you can Call Mech again and restart the cycle.

7. Mercy

7. Mercy

When you play as Mercy, you get to be someone’s guardian angel. The best way to use her is to pick someone who’ll be a major player and follow alongside them as their assistant, using Caduceus Staff to either continually heal or boost the damage of whoever she’s watching over. If the person you’re following is doing well for him or herself, using Guardian Angel takes you to another friend to help them. She’s pretty much a 100% support character, but sometimes you really need someone on the field who’s dedicated to caring for others.

6. Soldier: 76

6. Soldier: 76

Yes, Soldier: 76 is familiar. He’s designed to look and play like Call of Duty or Battlefield characters. You can’t beat someone comforting and familiar when you’re getting started. Besides, Soldier: 76 is pretty awesome. He’s a basic offensive character you can rely on, with a Sprint that can get him where he’s needed, a Pulse Rifle with a great range, Tactical Visor that guarantees his shots will land for a while, and even a Biotic Field that lets him briefly heal himself and his allies. Soldier: 76 is a reliable jack of all trades.

5. Tracer

5. Tracer

Tracer may be Overwatch ’s mascot (and absolutely adorable), but people are starting to wisen up to her tricks. This means you have to be smart when you use her. Think of Tracer as a ninja. You want to Blink to teleport behind an unsuspecting enemy, use the Pulse Pistol or Pulse Bomb, then get out of there before someone realizes what you’ve done and kills this rather fragile attacker. While Recall can give you a second chance, don’t rely too heavily on it. Make sure you build up a wide repertoire of skills to keep yourself sharp.

4. McCree

4. McCree

McCree is a master of close range attacks and duels. You want to be right there in front of an enemy, even a tank, and use Peacekeeper to attack. Then, send out a flashbang grenade to damage and stun them the foe in front of you. Chain that into a Combat Roll to reload, then repeat the process. When you can, use his Deadeye Ultimate to slow down time and pick off enemies one by one. If you’re really good and careful, you can unleash instant and immediate kills on everyone ahead of you.

3. Widowmaker

3. Widowmaker

If you love snipers, Overwatch’ s Widowmaker is for you. She’s for patient players with amazing aim. Use her Grappling Hook to plant her in a great spot. Scatter Venom Mines as you go, to protect her against an ambush. Then, scope in with Widow’s Kiss for powerful shots that can pick off foes. Once you’ve charged her ultimate, Infra-Sight lets her and each of her allies see opponents through walls. This is a woman you want on your side.

2. Mei

2. Mei

You may be in trouble if you underestimate Mei. This defensive warrior is so very good at crowd control. While she works best when you have a team that’s cohesive and knows how to work together, you may be able to get by even when you don’t. Put up Ice Walls to protect allies or a special spot. Set up a Cryo-Freeze that will heal and protect Mei. Then, use the Endothermic Blaster to shoot ice at enemies that could not only damage opponents, but freeze them too. Once her ultimate’s ready, you can summon a Blizzard that annoys every opponent, maybe leaving them frozen solid and prone for Mei and everyone on her team to defeat.

1. Lucio

1. Lucio

A healer is Overwatch ’s best hero? Yup! It all comes down to his versatility. You’re doing him a disservice if you only consider him a support character. This guy can do it all. You want to start with Crossfade, having Lucio play a song that speeds everyone up. Then, when the battle starts raging, switch that to his healing song and use Amp It Up to increase the restoration effect. When enemies come around, the Sonic Amplifier can push them back or send out a general attack. When the going gets rough, Sound Barrier shields every ally with a barrier. With Lucio, you get someone with decent offensive abilities, healing and buffing skills that are second to none, and great defenses when that ultimate kicks in.
