E3 2016: Top 5 E3 Press Conferences

E3 2016: Top 5 E3 Press Conferences

Now that we’ve covered all five E3 press conferences, it’s time to rate them! I know we’re all still a little astounded from Sony, but we’ll get through this together. Going all the way back to EA, recall what made each conference memorable, and what made them forgettable.

EA

EA

EA lands at number five, despite having BioWare on its side. It revealed nothing new about Mass Effect: Andromeda , which was extremely disappointing. In addition, Battlefield 1 , though it looked fairly good, was one of the only notable games about the entire conference. Despite this, EA focused a lot on trying to push EA Sports , but I think all of us were yawning by the end of it, thinking “I’ve seen this movie before.” Honestly, the only things that stuck out in my mind were Battlefield 1 and Fe .

Bethesda

Bethesda

Bethesda is above EA because it revealed a longer string of good games, but below Microsoft because not that much new content was revealed. Most of the games looked fun, but didn’t really ruffle my skirt. Quake Champions looked very exciting with its fast-paced action, though there wasn’t any actual gameplay in the preview. New content came for DOOM and Elder Scrolls Online , both lived up to their reputations and made everyone very excited to play both. As for entirely new games, Prey was fairly intriguing and Dishonored 2 blew my mind. More importantly, Bethesda revealed the VR games it’s working on, with Fallout 4 and DOOM playable on the showroom floor.

Microsoft

Microsoft

I’d almost say that Bethesda was more interesting and held my attention more than Microsoft did, if it weren’t for the sheer line-up of games and the new Xbox One S reveal. The conference, however, focused mainly on the new online features with Cortana, Play Anywhere, Clubs, Looking for Group, and Arena. All of which are very exciting, and I’m glad they’re finally catching up to the PS4. They ended the conference with Project Scorpio, which just sounds like a slightly more powerful Xbox One S to me. In the end, Microsoft simply dulls in comparison to the top two conferences.

Ubisoft

Ubisoft

Now this was a show! Ubisoft entertained and managed to reveal even more interesting games than Microsoft did. The host was quick-witted and left us all chuckling between games. What excited me the most was Star Trek: Bridge Crew (though the graphics could be better), the Assassin’s Creed movie (though nothing new was really said), and Watch Dogs 2 . Though that doesn’t mean each of the games featured didn’t look amazing, I look forward to all Ubisoft has to offer this year.

Sony

Sony

Nothing steals the spotlight like a live orchestra. And Sony didn’t even bother with boring talking bits between trailers, it just hit them one right after the other. Sony wowed us all with amazing games that left us all wanting more. God of War revealed what might be an emotional attachment for Kratos – how exciting! Then more great looking games were showcased one after another with The Last Guardian, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human… the list goes on and on, and none of them fall short. What’s more, the VR title section was launched with Resident Evil: Biohazard , which made everyone shiver with terror (or delight) in their seats. There was far more than I mentioned here, but this is what, in my opinion, made Sony the best of the best for this year’s E3 press conferences.
