Top 5 Most Memorable Legend of Zelda Moments

Top 5 Most Memorable Legend of Zelda Moments

Nintendo recently released its latest gameplay video of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in preparation for the game’s future release, which is coming for the Wii U and NX. The excitement surrounding the clip got us thinking about the rich history that surrounds one of Nintendo’s greatest heroes, and we couldn’t help but put together a list of great Zelda memories. Here are our top five.

Welcome to Hyrule – Ocarina of Time

Welcome to Hyrule – Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is easily one of the best games ever created, and it’s largely due to the epic build up and introduction of Hyrule. I can still remember my initial reaction when that glorious land came to life in 3D for the very first time – it was a sheer thing of beauty. N64 Hyrule was the dawn of a new era for the Zelda series, and it was way beyond our wildest imaginations.

Temple of Time – Ocarina of Time

Temple of Time – Ocarina of Time

Playing the Song of Time within the Temple of Time is by far one of the coolest moments in any Legends of Zelda title. After assembling the three spirit stones and playing that unforgettable melody, Link enters into another chamber of the temple. He pulls the Master Sword from the solid block of stone to go into a seven-year slumber, unleash Ganondorf, and change Hyrule forever.

It Was Only a Dream – Link’s Awakening

It Was Only a Dream – Link’s Awakening

Link’s Awakening for the original Game Boy has one of the best endings we’ve ever seen on a handheld device. During the final moments of  the game, a cutscene plays showing several memorable sequences and character encounters fade into the distance. There’s no way to stop them from being erased. Link eventually wakes up and we realize the entire game was nothing more than a dream – not real, much like the actual video game itself.

The Moon Is Falling – Majora’s Mask

The Moon Is Falling – Majora’s Mask

The game’s premise was a fantastic concept that centered on the seemingly inevitable ending of the world. A creepy moon that was destined to crash into the earth and destroy everything in its path marked this impending doom. Players know the outcome as Link continually travels back in time. The sight of that hideous moon marks an eerie reality that the world is going to end and there’s nothing Link can do about it except for give it his all and hope for a miracle.

Getting the Boot – Skyward Sword

Getting the Boot – Skyward Sword

Probably one of the more lighthearted moments from any Zelda title comes at the hands of Skyward Sword . Link enters into Beedle’s flying shop to browse some of the items this quirky fella has for sale. If Link decides not to buy anything, Beedle gets mad and ejects Link from the store, sending him tumbling to the ground below. Perhaps Beedle should rethink his business model.
