The Most Kick-ass Horror Cons Any Fan Will Love!

The Most Kick-ass Horror Cons Any Fan Will Love!

Fall’s most special time is fast approaching. Halloween is drawing nearer, and you know everyone starts celebrating sooner each year. Horror cons are a great way to get in the spirit before the event, as well as meet new people and share your passions. The funny thing is, these events have been lively since June! Don’t worry, though, here are 10 great horror cons across North America to visit this year.

Haunted Halloween Flea Market

Haunted Halloween Flea Market

Who says a horror con has to only be a convention? In Wheaton, Illinois, you can attend the Haunted Halloween Flea Market on October 22, 2016. It runs from 3pm until 12am, and there’s more to do than shop. Dead Dick Hammer is performing, there’ll be hay rides, and a Target: Zombies! laser shooting experience will be there to help you prepare for the apocalypse. That isn’t even getting into the actual celebrities who’ll be attending and haven’t been announced yet. I go every year, and it’s always fun.

Connecticut HorrorFest

Connecticut HorrorFest

Connecticut HorrorFest may be one of the smaller horror conventions, but it had some major star power this year! On August 27 in Danbury, CT, celebrities like Night of the Living Dead’ s George Romero, Friday the 13th Part 2’ s Tyler Mane, Gremlins’ Zach Galligan, and Stranger Things’ Mark Steger. It also had lots of panels with these good folks, as well as costume contests for kids and adults. Put a pin in this one so you can go next year!

Living Dead Weekend

Living Dead Weekend

When one day’s worth of zombies isn’t enough, you need to find someplace that will give you a weekend’s worth of scares. Pennsylvania’s Living Dead Weekend , held October 14-16 in Evans City, has you covered. You may remember it as the central filming location for Night of the Living Dead . Which is why you can meet actors who portrayed zombies in movies like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead at the con. You can also pretend you’re in the scene with The Evil Dead’ s cabin set and props. That’s in addition to other panels, events, and vendors.

Sinister Creature Con

Sinister Creature Con

Our next horror convention takes us to Sacramento, California. On October 15-16, people can attend the Sinister Creature Con and pay homage to everything that goes bump in the night. The Shadow Circus Theatre puppet troupe and Aurelio Voltaire will both be performing. SFX artists like Robert Kurtzman and Cleve Hall will be there to talk about their craft. Ghostbusters’ Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Bill Bryan, Tank Girl’ s Lori Petty, and Hannibal’ s Katharine Isabelle will be there too. And that’s just to start.

Calgary Horror Con

Calgary Horror Con

This past June, Calgary in Alberta, Canada, hosted a rather ghoulish con for anyone who enjoys scary things. The Calgary Horror Con had a lot to offer. There were foreign and independent horror films shown, like American Burger, Idyll, She Kills, and Alien Inside, with people able to submit their own long and short films for attendees to enjoy. You could see if you were the scariest of them all in the costume contest. Naturally, spooky stars showed too, like Halloween’ s Tyler Mane and Dick Warlock and Friday the 13th’ s Ari Lehman, Adrienne King, and Amy Steel. It was a boo-tiful summer event.

Camp Scarefest

Camp Scarefest

A good term for Camp Scarefest , in Lexington, Kentucky, is “comprehensive.” This three day event, running from September 30-October 2, has it all. Gamers can get a look at Friday the 13th: The Game . Speaking of which, Friday the 13th’ s Kane Hodder and Tom Savini will be there. Lita Ford will be there, for music fans to fawn over. The WWE and WCW’s Kevin Nash is attending. There’ll even be over 70 panels, seminars, and workshops, so you can learn more about the scary shows you love. You can even participate in a celebrity ghost hunt or a séance!

Flashback Weekend

Flashback Weekend

Here’s another event come and gone too soon. Every year, Chicago, IL is host to the Flashback Weekend . It always has unique sights, movie presentations, and people to meet. This year, a 4K digital restoration of Phantasm was shown. Famous faces from Scream , like Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, and Skeet Ulrich, as well as Rob Zombies’ 31’ s Malcolm McDowell, Meg Foster, Judy Geeson, Pancho Moler, and David Ury showed up. You could even see magic performances, attend Q&As, and see World of Death . It was a big deal this year, and it will be next year too!

Monster-Mania

Monster-Mania

Here’s another horror con you still have time to hit. Monster-Mania is coming to Hunt Valley, Maryland between September 30 and October 2. This con has special horror memoribilia you can only get there. Robert Englund, Amanda Wyss, Ronee Blakley, and Ricky Dean Logan are showing up for a Nightmare on Elm Street reunion. A Fright Night ‘85 reunion is being held as well, with Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, and Stephen Geoffreys. And don’t worry about sleeping, as there’ll be horror movies running until 2am!

Days of the Dead

Days of the Dead

The great thing about the Days of the Dead con is that it might eventually come to you, if you’re willing to wait. This show will be held in Louisville, Kentucky from September 2-4, Chicago, Illinois from November 18-20, and Atlanta, Georgia from February 3-5. Each one brings celebrities to interact with fans, panels to enjoy, things to buy, and film festivals to enjoy. Each con has its own celebrities and events, and people who make it to Louisville will get to meet Elvira, Mick Foley, Tara Reed, and Jon Heder.

HorrorHound Weekend

HorrorHound Weekend

Better hurry up if you want to catch the HorrorHound Weekend ! It’s going to be upon us before we even know it. This con comes to Indianapolis, Indiana each year and is taking place September 9-11. It has everything you could want to scare and delight you. There’s going to be Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Live , Thehma.net’s Mask-Fest to attend, a film festival, a pajama dance party, celebrities, and of course vendors. This year, Scream’ s David Arquette, Child’s Play’ s Brad Dourif, The Walking Dead’ s Michael Rooker, and plenty of other famous faces will appear. There’s even going to be a Chump Change Variety Show to enjoy!
