5 Times Gaming Cracked Us Up

5 Times Gaming Cracked Us Up

Watch Dogs 2 dropped earlier this week and it hasn’t come without a little bit of hilarious controversy. One gamer accidentally blew up some civilians with a pipe bomb (as you do) and got more than he bargained for. When one female character was knocked down it was discovered that she was wearing crotchless panties, putting a rather explicit texture of the female anatomy on display. This wild but amusing design choice got us thinking about the funniest things we’ve experienced in gaming. My five favorites mostly happened during that golden age of gaming, the 1990s.

Bear Transformation in Altered Beast

Bear Transformation in Altered Beast

Perhaps one of the more funny moments captured in the pre-64-bit days is the bear transformation in the third level of Altered Beast . Not only is the game’s entire premise pretty hilarious, but this little gem makes it that much better. In no way does the guy’s transformation into Smokey the Bear build on the storyline nor does it carry your further down the path of SEGA epicness. Rather, it makes you burst into laugher each and every time that poorly rendered face appears.

Mega Man Box Art

Mega Man Box Art

Speaking of the hilarious old days, the original Mega Man box art is a perfect addition to our list. Words can’t express the joy and laughter I feel everytime I look at that face. I thought this was a special edition box art won by gamer submissions. Turns out, it’s the real deal. What were they thinking?

OddJob in Goldeneye

OddJob in Goldeneye

I remember this little man like it was yesterday. He was nearly impossible to kill during multiplayer mode, not just because he was so small you had to adjust your aim, but because he was so fricking hilarious looking. He looked like Gary Coleman with some Jackie Chan mixed in as he ducked and slashed his way through levels. An epic rendition of a true Jame Bond classic villain.

Father Time Ending in MGS 3

Father Time Ending in MGS 3

Metal Gear Solid 3 was a fantastic game for it’s time – it had just about everything you could ask for in a title. However, some folks still to this day are unaware of its humorous alternate ending. When you reach the boss fight at the very end of the game, you have two options – fight on and destroy this fool, or, pause your game for a week and watch him die of old age. Yes! You can literally watch the old dude kick the bucket.

Springfield Power Plant in Duke Nukeum 3D

Springfield Power Plant in Duke Nukeum 3D

Last but not least, we have Duke Nukem 3D ’s Springfield Power Plant Easter egg. Not nearly as bad as seeing digital genitalia, but hilarious nonetheless. The developers added a little fun into this Duke Nukem title with Homer Simpson’s office hidden in a secret room of the game’s power plant. Nothing like grabbing a fist full of donuts while you’re kicking back in Sector 7-G.
