Top 5 Games That Should’ve Been on the NES Classic

Top 5 Games That Should’ve Been on the NES Classic

Nintendo is once again making waves throughout the gaming world with the drama surrounding the NES Classic. Outside of a few minor frame rate issues and a puzzlingly small controller cord, the console is selling like hot cakes. Now of course, those hot cakes were an extremely limited supply and Nintendo “should have more available” in time for Christmas, which is next week. The limited supply for such a high demand product is nothing new from the most confused gaming company on the planet – they seem to do this with popular products every now and then. However, the more interesting fact is that the NES Classic only comes with 30 games, leaving out some serious classics that definitely should have been included. Lets take a gander at five games that should have been in the lineup, regardless of licensing or other outside factors.

Blades of Steel

Blades of Steel

The NES Classic only features two decent sports games – Techmo Bowl and Punch Out . Blades of Steel is an absolute must, and not just because I’m a hardcore hockey simulator fan. This game was amazing when it debuted back in the day and was equally played by sports- and non-sports fans alike. Make it happen in version 2.0, Nintendo.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game

Don’t let the dusty old arcade nerds tell you otherwise, TMNT II: The Arcade Game was solid on the NES. It featured some of the best brawler controls the platform has ever seen. It’s certainly not the best title to feature the Ninja Turtles, but it was a strong addition to the Nintendo library that should have been featured on the NES Classic.

Tetris

Tetris

It’s surprising that Nintendo left off one of the games that is so synonymous with its console. In fact, Tetris sold nearly 8 million copies for the NES console alone. Omitting a true classic like this one should be a crime. We want this never-ending game of addictiveness added to the next version of the NES Classic.

Batman: The Video Game

Batman: The Video Game

Batman: The Video Game was by far one of the best and most underrated platformers on the NES. Sure, the NES was a staple for terrible movie-based games, Back to the Future and Ghostbusters to name a few, but this was clearly the exception. It easily should have been included; stupid licensing agreements…

DuckTales

DuckTales

DuckTales was an instant classic when it debuted. Navigating Scrooge McDuck on the pogo-stick is something I’ll never forget. This game truly led to the dawn of an era in terms of how games are presented and designed. It’s a fantastic game that certainly should have been included in the NES Classic. At least we’ve got the HD version to play instead.
