5 Reasons Call of Duty is the Best FPS Series Ever!

Activision recently announced that the Call of Duty brand is once again the top-selling console franchise worldwide for 2016. Both Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare helped propel the long-standing first-person shooter to the top revenue spot for the seventh time in the last eight years. It’s only fitting that we take a look at the top five reasons the Call of Duty franchise is the best shooting series ever. Let’s dive in.

The Original

The Original

The original Call of Duty debuted in 2003 and was one of the best first-person shooters to ever hit the gaming scene. Outside of using one of the more fascinating pieces of world history as the platform for this game, Infinity Ward developed a revolutionary AI system to further immerse the player. As a result, players would literally jump into battle with AI allies to take down the enemy as opposed to going lone wolf like in so many titles before.

Best Controls

Best Controls

The Call of Duty franchise still holds the title for best controls ever. I don’t care what anyone says about the controls of this game or that game; Call of Duty is by far the best and has easily become the standard for which the industry is measured. Captivating Story

Captivating Story

With the exception of the past two installments, Call of Duty has delivered some of the best stories in gaming. Everything from Modern Warfare 4 ’s nuclear explosion to Shepherd’s betrayal and the painful airport scene in Modern Warfare 2 gave this series some serious life. The brand wouldn’t have come close to the success it’s achieved without the genius writing of the last decade.

Killstreaks

Killstreaks

The killstreaks are by far the single most impressive feature ever added to the Call of Duty game. Yes, they’re simple, but they’re incredibly effective. Killstreaks not only paved way for providing additional replay value but they also added an entirely new dimension to the first-person shooting genre. They’ve lost their allure a little bit as of late, but their initial impact on the gaming community was immense.

Unparalleled Multiplayer

Unparalleled Multiplayer

The Call of Duty name was a major driving force in the development of the multiplayer phenomena for us console gamers during the early 2000’s. COD and Halo literally built the multiplayer player platform into what it is today. Sure, we can point to a few games that may have influenced everyone’s favorite game mode, but let’s be real for a moment; COD refined it over years of hard work.
