5 Reasons the Switch Will Save Nintendo

5 Reasons the Switch Will Save Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch has finally arrived! The gaming community is still processing its initial reactions to the console and how it fits within the landscape. However, we’ve taken the liberty of highlighting exactly why the Switch will indeed connect with gamers and be a smash hit. In fact, we’ve taken it one step further and detailed exactly why the Switch will not only be a success, but it will bring Nintendo back from the dead. Let’s dive in!

It’s Not a Console

It’s Not a Console

Technically speaking, the Nintendo Switch is neither console nor handheld. It’s a hybrid. Players can really choose to how they want to spend their time. It’s up to you to use it as a handheld or console. Fortunately, for Nintendo’s sake, that’s a good thing. They’ve absolutely dominated the handheld landscape for some time, even when they’ve fallen flat on the console front.

Unique Local Multiplayer

Unique Local Multiplayer

Nintendo has been and always will be a platform for gamers to share their passions together, as a collective group. Unlike the PS4 and Xbox One, the Switch is perfectly built for local multiplayer. Eight players can come together and jam out on the same game together with their own controllers and consoles. Nothing sounds better than packing a friend’s house on the weekend for some epic multiplayer action; no one needs to sit a round out this time.

NES and SNES Games

Nintendo is taking a page out of Microsoft and Sony’s book by adding a nice incentive to their pay to play model. There will be glorious NES and SNES titles, all for free. Nintendo has promised at least one free game each month for players who are subscribed to their service. Said game will even have online multiplayer implemented! This, without a doubt, could be a game changer for Nintendo as they look to differentiate themselves within the landscape. I think this small incentive could be great.

First-Party Games

Nothing on this planet comes close to the awesomeness of Nintendo’s very own line up of games. It’s the reason they’ve stayed a float after flops like the GameCube and Wii U. Nintendo finally seems to be waking up and charting a new path. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and the rest of the crew will be the decisive trendsetters, as Nintendo seems to finally know what they’re doing this time around with their epic cast of characters.

Third-Party Support

Third-Party Support

Nintendo will finally see a decent third-party lineup, simply because they’re finally sharing their coveted technology with various top AAA developers. Nintendo reportedly has at least 100 games in development now, with even more on the way. If Nintendo’s most recent earning call is any indication of boosted third-party support, the Switch might very well see games like NBA 2K and Call of Duty hit the platform sometime in the future. Can you imagine a console-quality Call of Duty on the go?
