Top 5 Craziest In-game Items Ever

Top 5 Craziest In-game Items Ever

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild grants Link the ability to purchase a house to call his own, along with the option to add some finishings that let you permanently save and display a few weapons. All Link needs to do is complete a small quest in Hateno Village, drop 4,400 rupees and 30 bundles of wood, and put the sold sign up. Yep, that’s almost 5,000 big ones to own a space of your own. Link’s pretty hefty payment got us thinking about some of gaming’s most famous in-game purchases. Let’s take a journey through the five most outrageous in-game purchases ever.

Runescape’s Blue Party Hat

Runescape’s Blue Party Hat

RuneScape, the hugely popular MMORPG, is by far one of the best and worst examples of players dropping serious coin for in-game purchases. In 2001, the game held a Christmas event in which players were given special items. The blue party hat turned out to be the rarest of them all and has spawned into something of a RuneScape legend. Today, the pixelated hat, which does nothing but look different, has routinely fetched upwards of $4,000.

Dota 2’s Ethereal Flames Wardog

There’s no surprise that something out of Dota 2 lands firmly on our list. The game that has helped thrust eSports forward is also home to a rather expensive digital pet. The Ethereal Flames Wardog sold for a mind boggling $38,000 in 2013. The pink coloring, combined with its ethereal flame, makes it one seriously cool and ultra rare addition.

Entropia Universe’s Club Neverdie

Entropia Universe’s Club Neverdie

Entropia Universe has been going strong since 2003 and is best known for its real cash economy. In fact, the game so closely replicates the real world that players have actually made a living off of being engaged with the game. Of course, this ultimately leads to a rather massive in-game purchase that blows away all expectations. Club Neverdie was bought for $200,000, then later sold for $635,000. That’s some serious cash!

Diablo III’s Echoing Fury Mace

Diablo III’s Echoing Fury Mace

Perhaps one of the rarer pieces of loot within Diablo III , The Echoing Fury Mace was recently auctioned off online for a pretty astonishing sum. This powerful piece of equipment, which literally made players unstoppable, was sold off for an impressive 40 billion gold won. That translates to roughly $14,000 in the real world.

Jurassic World

Jurassic World

I thought I’d change it up for this last one and add a rather ridiculous example of taking in-game purchases way over the top. In 2015, a young man managed to rack up about $5,900 in in-game purchases for the iOS Jurassic World game. The kid got so into upgrading his dinosaurs that he’d racked up the charges on his father’s account. In fact, he managed to burn through those Dino Bucks between December 13-18. Now that’s taking in-game purchases to the extreme!
