Top 5 Ridiculous One-Liners in Gaming History

Top 5 Ridiculous One-Liners in Gaming History

As Bungie begins to close the chapter on Destiny with its final live event, they’ve decided to bring back a few things that made the game such a hit. One in particular, which seems way outside the box, is Peter Dinklage’s most epic line in the history of voice-overs. I’m of course talking about, “That Wizard came from the moon!” These hilarious words were eventually cut from the final game, but not before they made their way into the gaming history. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and look at some of the other best one-liners in games.

Dink Bot

I, for one, don’t think Peter Dinklage’s Destiny lines were that bad. Sure, some felt like he was either stoned or bored. However, some of his early stuff was pure gold. In fact, one gem that comes to mind is right after you scoop up the Sword of Crota. Dinklage lets out a less than thrilling, “Be careful, it’s power is dark.” It’s said in a tone that is similar to your old monotone math teacher from high school.

Who am I kidding? Dinklage was terrible.

Burton

Perhaps one of the more powerful moments in gaming history came from the original Resident Evil . Good old Barry Burton laid down this gem just after saving Jill Valentine from a descending ceiling that would have certainly crushed her to death. “You were almost a Jill sandwich,” was muttered by Burton, which was soon followed by an internet firestorm that would inspire nearly a decade of memes and jokes.

So Much More Than Pie

GLaDOS, from Portal , is easily one of the greatest characters in the history of gaming. One-liner after one-liner filled this game from start to finish. Perhaps the best example of this was when she summed up Chell’s adventure. “Didn’t we have some fun though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit, and I said “Goodbye,” and you were like “No way!” And then I was all, “We pretended we were going to murder you?’ That was great.” That really was great.

You’ve Died Of…

You’ve Died Of…

This one literally made me laugh out loud while writing it down. Although it’s more of a textual-based one-liner rather than a spoken one, it’s still epic nevertheless. In fact, it still remains hilarious to this very day and can probably be seen sprawled across some dude’s shirt at Comic Con. I’m of course talking about this Oregon trail highlight, “You’ve Died of Dysentery.” Those words were more traumatizing than when all the buffalo meat went bad or your uncle Jim was mauled by bears. Gosh, what a game for kids.

Mortal Kombat defined a generation when it launched back in the early 1990’s. The game had everything: stellar gameplay, great graphics, and the most forceful line in gaming history by one of it’s more entertaining characters, Scorpion. “Get over here!” Scorpion would use this line any time he sent out his spear and use it to pull his enemy closer to him.
