Top 7 MMOs You Should Be Playing

Top 7 MMOs You Should Be Playing

There’s something inherently magical about massively multiplayer online games. It’s fun to explore new worlds on our own and meet all kinds of non-player characters who have their own tales to tell. But the experience is enriched when we include other people. There will be trolls and players who don’t have the same goals as you, but at the same time, there are potential lasting friendships waiting in the wings. You just never know who you’ll meet and what fanciful adventures you will go on together. In that spirit of enjoyment, here are seven MMOs that you should absolutely take a look at.

Ashes of Creation

Ashes of Creation

Ashes of Creation is an upcoming game that has found it’s way onto our list, because it looks like a MMORPG to beat all MMORPGs. It looks like it will have a multitude of different ways to play, so there should be something for every style of gameplay you want to enjoy. Players should be able to do things as simple as own a farm and grow crops on it. Those who want more will be able to participate in battles as massive as castle sieges. Ashes of Creation is set to release sometime near the end of 2018, so it’s one to keep your eyes on.

Wild West Online

Wild West Online

When Wild West Online first appeared on the scene, many actually thought it was Red Dead Redemption 2 . That’s definitely not a comparison to complain about, as the Red Dead series is extremely popular. Wild West Online is entirely player versus player, so it’s a bit of a shift from your average MMO. It’s every man for himself, which is about as true to the real wild west as you can get. While its initial five out of ten score on Steam was nothing to write home about, it’s a good starting base and could grow. Here’s hoping that in the next few years Wild West Online will evolve into something even better than it already is.

Bless Online

Bless Online

Bless Online originally released in Asia and gained a following there before it headed west. Since then, it’s had its ups and downs, but considering it started in early access, the only place to go is up. Bless Online has seven unique races for those looking for a different experience. It also includes large field battles, which is an exciting change from the average MMORPG. Besides the raging battles happening thanks to an all out war, players can also tame up to 660 different species of creatures. So there’s plenty to do and explore in Bless Online .

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn first released back in 2013, but it still maintains its place here as a game that continues to expand and offer even more experiences for its players. The fact that it’s based in the extremely popular Final Fantasy universe gives it a big leg up against its competitors to begin with. It also continues to receive praise from those who play it. I’ve known many a person who has made very true friendships with other Final Fantasy XIV players, so at the least, it’s worth checking out to meet new people!

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online is hit or miss for anyone that plays it. But if there’s one thing that everyone can agree on, it’s that the game has done a great job of expanding and evolving over time. One such expansion is Summerset, which brings players to the titular islands. Summerset is the home of the High Elves and includes plenty of beautiful landscapes to explore. There is hope that even more expansions will release, possibly with locations that have never been seen before in The Elder Scrolls games. (Come on, Elsweyr!)

Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2

When I was younger, there were two MMOs that seemed like they would bash heads and battle for eternity. One of them was World of Warcraft, and the other was Guild Wars . That fight has continued to rage on, with Guild Wars 2 doing everything it can to improve on the first. The game continues to release expansions and updates even now, and players are still holding the torch for it. Two expansions have released for it, and the future could possibly hold even more. If you haven’t played Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 , you’re definitely not too late to join the party. It’s a good bet if you’re looking for a great MMO.

World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft

Here we are, with the best MMO you should be playing right now! While it’s been around since 2004, World of Warcraft still dominates the industry. When I think of MMOs there are a few big names that immediately jump to mind, EverQuest , RuneScape , and World of Warcraft . The latter has continued to enjoy intense amounts of success through all of the years. There is a ton to see and do in the base game, as well as all of the expansions that have released for it over time. Battle for Azeroth is one such expansion which long time fans (and new ones) are extremely excited about. It’s a classic title at this point, but it’s still one of the best.
