7 Things To Remember About Red Dead Online

7 Things To Remember About Red Dead Online

The Red Dead Online beta has been alive and kickin’ for a little while now, with most folks receiving it with open arms. It is pretty similar to the campaign, so it shouldn’t be hard for Red Dead Redemption 2 players to find their footing. Still, there are some notable differences to keep in mind in the online mode. Make sure you are aware of these pros and cons when you start playing through this supplemental bonus alone or with friends.

It Eases You Into Red Dead Online

What’s nice about Red Dead Online is that it kicks off almost assuming you maybe didn’t play through much of Red Dead Redemption 2 . It takes you through riding a horse, bringing up the cinematic camera, interacting with people, setting up a camp, taking quests, and finding your footing. It is rather comforting and makes sure you get settled quickly in an online world where other players might not be so kind and you will often be left to your own devices.

Your Character Might Look Ugly

Your Character Might Look Ugly

There are a lot of tutorial videos online going over how to make good looking characters in Red Dead Online . This is because right now, it is super easy to make an ugly avatar in the game. It can take a lot of time, maybe fifteen minutes or more, playing around with sliders to get a character who looks halfway normal. Hopefully, it will be easier to make better looking people after the game leaves the beta phase. But for now, be willing to accept someone who isn’t a supermodel.

Expect Connection Issues and Bugs

Expect Connection Issues and Bugs

Red Dead Online is in a beta phase right now. This means you will experience problems. There will be bugs. Things won’t work right. Character animations might be off. You might find yourself disconnected often. Missions might not work properly. Eventually, things will be fixed. But for now, there are some major problems.

Until then, enjoy boats falling from the sky?

You Can Play Alone

You Can Play Alone

Red Dead Online is a game that can be better with friends, but if no one is around, you can still play on your own. You could look for Stranger missions. You could meet with familiar characters from the game. There are Free Roam missions that don’t require other people. Even some of the multiplayer competitive modes, like Shootout, Make It Count, Most Wanted, and Name Your Weapon, let you go in alone and fight to be the last person standing.

Your Character’s Gender Alters Dialogue

People treat men and women differently in Red Dead Online . This is true in the campaign with NPCs and with your custom avatar in the online mode. It hits you right away, too. The prison guards will talk about this, with one saying his wife is getting “ideas” above her station and reading too much, while one says women shouldn’t be educated. When you go on your first mission and head to the local post office, the employee behind the counter will say he usually doesn’t associate with your kind and can get a bit overly familiar. It’s something that might be jarring, if you don’t go in expecting it.

Your Progress Probably Won’t Be Reset

Your Progress Probably Won’t Be Reset

People may worry about getting invested in Red Dead Online, since it is a beta. They may fear that everything they are doing and the character they are creating might not last. Rockstar issued a statement saying that

Here was the full statement from Rockstar Games.

“We appreciate all the continued feedback we are receiving on the Red Dead Online Beta. For players concerned about the potential for progress and stat resets, we currently do not have any plans to reset them as part of the beta’s rollout.”

Hopefully, this means that people can enjoy the game however they’d like. Don’t worry about maybe losing it all! Rockstar has no plans to delete anything.

The Economy’s Messed Up Right Now

The Economy’s Messed Up Right Now

Stuff in Red Dead Online is expensive. Gold is necessary to insure every horse past your first and requires five gold bars, and 100 gold nuggets equal one bar. Some weapons, outfits, and horses can only be purchased with gold. Worse, even the non-gold items are more expensive. A Mauser Pistol is $250 in the campaign and $1000 in Red Dead Online right now.

Fortunately, Rockstar seems to be working on it. The company issued the following statement.

“Your feedback from these early days will be instrumental in helping formulate updates to every aspect of the experience. Our current areas of focus include the in-game economy, which will require some additional balancing in order to ensure all activities are appropriately rewarding and fun, as well as some persistent bugs that are causing some players to be kicked from sessions.”

Things could get better, but let’s be cautious. Keep in mind that the company is making a lot of money off of sellig GTA$ in Grand Theft Auto Online and has been gradually hiking up prices there.
