10 Arcade Classics We Want at Home

10 Arcade Classics We Want at Home

While mini-consoles have been a big fad, another product line interested in bringing retro games back into the home takes up a bit more space in the living room. The Arcade1Up series brings slightly smaller versions of real arcade cabinets back to life, without having to spend thousands of dollars or time and resources restoring original materials. These things come loaded with multiple games arranged in a theme or series, sport original artwork and replica parts, and are still large enough to play while standing. As the line of games available expands, we found ourselves wondering what could come next as the series grows. Here are ten games or series we’d love to see show up as Arcade1Up cabinets.

BurgerTime

BurgerTime

Arcade1Up already has a bunch of the super early classics, but there’s one I think is sorely missing. You can get silly, little handheld versions of BurgerTime now, but there aren’t any arcade replicas available yet. BurgerTime doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, even if it isn’t as top shelf as some of the others available. Ideally, this would be part of a collection of other food-related titles, such as Root Beer Tapper .

Fatal Fury

Fatal Fury

Arcade1Up already has a Street Fighter II collection cabinet. So, why not introduce some of the classic fighter’s direct competition? Fatal Fury was one of many answers to Capcom’s megaton success, and one of the best among the crowd of competitors. Fatal Fury would go on to more or less become the King of Fighters series, but the original titles had thier own charm, mechanics, and overall vibe.

Golden Axe

Golden Axe

Golden Axe might have more of a reputation based on its Sega Genesis iterations, but the arcade versions are still absoluely top-tier brawlers. This is especially the case with Revenge of Death Adder , a later sequel in the series that never was converted to consoles. It’s one of the best four-player brawlers you could ever play, and not nearly enough people have. Make it happen, Arcade1Up!

Konami Brawlers

Konami Brawlers

Konami has all kinds of arcade classics in its history, but perhaps the best, especially for something you’d have in your home and share with friends and family, is its library of brawlers. There’s a reason these games were so popular in the arcade days. Konami has plenty of titles available, even without those pesky IP licenses to get in the way. Sunset Riders is a prime example, and there are plenty of options to pair with it.

Magical Drop

Magical Drop

With all the fighters, brawlers, and shooters, it’s sometimes easy to forget that there are plenty of cool, classic puzzle games in arcade history as well. Chief among those is Magical Drop , one of the best series to appear on Neo Geo cabinets that is sadly more or less lost to time. We won’t talk about Magical Drop V . A collection of the first three Magical Drop games in one box would be amazing.

Marvel vs Capcom

Marvel vs Capcom

Capcom is obviously on board with Arcade1Up, and should totally keep them coming. How about another fighting game set or two? First, we’d love to see Marvel vs Capcom , and the games that came before it. That includes games like X-Men vs Street Fighter , and Marvel Super Heroes . You couldn’t go past Marvel vs Capcom 2 probably, but that’s still over four games to work with.

Street Fighter III

Street Fighter III

In addition to Marvel vs Capcom , it would be silly not to go Street Fighter II style with one of Capcom’s greatest fighters, Street Fighter III . There are three different iterations of this game, each one being quite distinct in terms of gameplay and presentation. Third Strike would naturally be the one to play, but the other two are curious enough titles to be worth including in a cool set.

R-Type

R-Type

The R-Type series is all about spectacle, so what better shooter series to feature with an Arcade1Up cabinet? Each title ups the ante more than the last, with massive boss creatures that are all various kinds of ripoffs/inspirations of H.R. Giger. Sure, this one might scare your kids, but it would be totally worth it.

Mrs. Pac-Man

Mrs. Pac-Man

Arcade1Up already has a Pac-Man cabinet, but the weird thing about it is it only features two games. Compared to the other sets on offer, that’s a bit disappointing. So, we would love to see a second Pac-Man cabinet, this time with Mrs. Pac-Man as the marquee title. We already know Mrs. Pac-Man is the best game in the series, after all. The set could also include some of the other games you’d expect to see on Bandai Namco collections, like Pac-Mania for example. Maybe even Pac-Land for giggles.

Nintendo

Nintendo

Here’s the perfect, utopian world, pie in the sky, pipe dream pick. If Arcade1Up could nail a Nintendo partnership, the very heavens above would open up, and little angels would hand-deliver the cabinets themselves. Or, you know, you could just pick it up at Walmart or whatever. But seriously, a Nintendo-themed cabinet that included all the Donkey Kong games, Mario Bros ., Punch-Out , and maybe even Sky Skipper for history’s sake would be an incredible piece for any gaming household.
