Top 7 Can’t-Miss Games (To End 2019)

Top 7 Can’t-Miss Games (To End 2019)

Ever look at a year filled with games and suddenly realize it’s still not over yet? That there’s a whole cavalcade of major titles about to rain down on you? Worse, these aren’t mediocre games. They’re ones that are going to actually be pretty great. They might even be game of the year contenders! Well, 2019 is that kind of year. Surprise! Its second half might be even better than the first.

Shenmue III

Shenmue III

Is Shenmue III going to be a success? Will it actually be a good game that can compete, considering how much adventure games like it have changed since Shenmue II was released in 2001? Who knows. What matters is, it is a much-demanded new installment in a series that left people hanging for years. Finally, people are going to get closure. Even if it doesn’t end up being great, it will provide answers. Plus, people will probably be morbidly curious about how it turned out. Of course Shenmue III will be a game people can’t miss.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

While Shenmue III’ s quality could be dubious, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is one title with “III” in the name that will deliver on promises. Given the length of these recent The Legend of Heroes games, the fact that the series continued and concluded over multiple console generations, and that the it changed hands with publishers, people might have wondered if we’d ever see the end of this series. But we will! It’s happening! This entry is going to help bring us closer to tying up a great story and, unlike Shenmue III, we can be assured of its quality.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield is a big deal. This is the first time a mainline entry in the series is going to appear on an actual console. It will also be the first to not allow every possible Pokemon to be available in it. That isn’t even getting into new functions, like how it will use camping, the introduction of raids, and the open world elements that will be there. Major changes are coming. People who are returning or new fans will want to keep their eyes on it to see how things end up turning out.

Death Stranding

Death Stranding

Death Stranding could end up being like one of those horrible, awkward moments in movies where you can’t bear to watch, but don’t look away. Hideo Kojima has been given free rein over a project, and over the years we’ve seen all sorts of strange trailers and screenshots that explain very little about what the game actually is. Things are becoming a little clearer closer to its 2019 launch. Norman Reedus is trying to reconnect the world after an unimaginable event that ripped everyone apart, and Mads Mikkelsen is trying to stop him. Even though it seems like a weird courier game, people may want to pay attention in case it accidentally ends up being good.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a soft reboot of one of the best Call of Duty lines ever. It has some big combat boots to fill. Which means all eyes are on this one. Even if it wasn’t going to offer a completely new look at its story, which people will experience both in the campaign and multiplayer, it does enough to garner all kinds of attention. Namely, it will be the first installment with cross-play. Getting to play with absolutely everyone on every platform is a huge deal, and fans of the series better pay attention to an installment that could end up changing Call of Duty multiplayer as we know it.

DOOM Eternal

DOOM Eternal

The 2016 DOOM reboot was a fantastic game. It pretty much revived interest in the series. (Plus, its Nintendo Switch port was somehow just as impressive as the version that appeared on other consoles!) By the time 2019 ends, we’ll have DOOm Eternal . And frankly, it sounds pretty great. Twice as many demons will be around. Demons’ bodies will be destroyed more and more as you fight them. You’ll be able to collect spare lives to help you continue your slaughter. Plus, that asymmetric Invasion multiplayer mode and Battle Mode competitive multiplayer. Things are going to get good.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars single-player, story-heavy games haven’t had a good run in the last few years. Star Wars 1313, which would have focused on Boba Fett, was canceled. The Visceral Games title with Uncharted’ s Amy Hennig that would have taken place after Star Wars IV was canceled. Lots of Star Wars mobile and multiplayer games, like Battlefront II, kept appearing. But Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is bucking that trend. It’s a single-player adventure with what seems like an intense storyline and lots of incentives to return to or visit new areas once you learn new abilities.
