10 Games YOU Can Make Real (And How to Find Others)

10 Games YOU Can Make Real (And How to Find Others)

Those of you out there that are tech-savvy folks know the concept of crowd funding is no secret. Sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo help people reach out and garner money to help get their projects funded and into production for consumption by the masses. And it is in this way that YOU, the gamer, can help the gaming industry change for the better. You can personally be a part of funding a project the YOU believe in and not just what the mega-publishers want you to believe in. So if you would like to help make a difference in the gaming industry, here are ten games we thought worth checking out. But don’t just take our word for it; get out there and search these people and projects out for yourself. You might be surprised at what you find.

Blood for Blood

Blood for Blood

If you are into immersive fighting games where you can rip, smash, kill, maim and generally just destroy everything in your path, then this game is for you. The team at Sinan Yan in Beijing, China is currently already in production of this PC-based melee combat gem. The idea was simple: to create a game where melee combat was free and dynamic. A game where you could get inside the mind of your fighter and feel what they feel as you move your way through the games stages. Here’s where you can find them and read more for yourself. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/an-immersion-melee-fighting-game-for-oculusrift-blood-for-blood

Wild Wings

Wild Wings

This game is very interesting. It has all the dogfighting fun of Ace Combat while being slightly cartoony in scope, much like Disney/Pixar’s Planes . So it amalgamates the concepts of cutesy and kick-ass. The flight mechanics look both solid and fluid and this game even gives you the ability to fly in squadrons and engage in aerial combat with your team. So all-in-all, it looks like this game could take multiplayer flight sims to a whole new level. It is slated to be available for all mobile platforms and PC/Mac. March of the Ants

March of the Ants

The only reason that this game is listed this here is because it is seriously something that we have never seen before. We have all seen ants wandering around our lives at inopportune moments, but in March of the Ants , you take control of the colony and its survival or demise is based solely on the decisions you make. You explore, gather, build, secure, fight and grow your ant colony to its best-or worst-possible outcome. You build the tunnels that will house your colony and keep it safe in times of danger. So it’s not just about how you use the ants, it’s about your overall strategy for survival. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/910041337/march-of-the-ants?ref=category

Triggered

Triggered

This game caught our eye for the simple fact that in their teaser it states, “A project to bring the experience of mental illness to others through video games as art.” That alone was enough to make us take a look. And when we did, we saw a deep and totally messed up 2D thriller that looks like the kind of game we would totally play. Everything in the game itself is designed and built to mimic the various forms and stages of some well-known mental illnesses. This game is not a slam against mental illness, so don’t get all offended. These guys are merely using it as a catalyst to create a highly intense game that takes us somewhere we’ve never really been before. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/triggered

Caffeine

Caffeine

The way the development team for Caffeine describes it is as, “a quirky first person psychological horror game that includes puzzle based exploration gameplay.” At its core it is science fiction horror, and it’s more than that. It’s a puzzle based exploration game as well. So there are several elements to satisfy several types of gamers. Watching some of the demo videos, it looks like the team has spent a lot of time developing a rich and immersive world to play in. The graphics are awesome and the fact that they are using the Quake 4 engine gives them a very solid base to build on. So if you are into sci-fi horror games and want one that will make you think, give Caffeine a look. But honestly, they had us at the title. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dylserx/caffeine-a-sci-fi-horror-game?ref=category

Suspender

Suspender

While we may not really care for the title of this game, the concept is a solid idea that brings a run-of-the-mill action game into some new territory. This game is a third-person action platformer, so nothing new here. But the catch is this: within the game itself, time stops when you do. So if you find yourself in a bit of a sticky situation, just stop moving. Once the clock stops, you will have all the time you need to assess your situation before continuing on. But be warned, you have to take out EVERY enemy at each stage to advance, and judging by what the team developing this game has put out there, that may be a challenge in itself! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/suspender

World War Machine

World War Machine

Quoted as being, “A fast-paced, Action-RPG set in a procedural post-human world with meaningful customization, tactical coop and steel-shattering destruction,” WWM looks like a very cool, top-down shooter style of game. No organic characters and all robots and machinery means nearly limitless customization of your army of bots. The team has already been partially funded and is looking for a little extra push to keep things moving forward. Watching some of the gameplay, it definitely looks like a blast to play and we can’t wait to see it completed. Here’s how to find them so you can help WWM become a reality: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/world-war-machine-a-post-human-action-rpg

Shards

Shards

Inspired by games like Ultima Online , Shards promises to be a great gaming experience for those who love to tinker. It’s a moddable online sandbox-style RPG. That’s right, moddable. So for all you hackers and modders out there, you will finally have a place to do it where everyone is doing it, so you can test your skills against everyone else. One of the best parts about the game, once you buy it you play free forever! That’s the promise of the team developing Shards . Our favorite part is the skill-based character development rather than classes or leveling systems. Oh, and you can employ NPCs to handle you menial tasks so you don’t have to spend time doing them and you can focus on building up your character and not your assets. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1468280928/shards-online-a-customizable-sandbox-mmorpg?ref=category

Deadrock Divide

Deadrock Divide

The teaser for this game says, “Fight, trade, and conquer in an 80’s inspired, sci-fi universe. A Sandbox RPG featuring turn-based tactical combat for PC/Mac/Linux.” And it looks very cool. It combines the ideas of sandbox games, RTS games, top-down action games and strategy to create an awesome, 80’s inspired world that rides the line between Tron and The Last Starfighter . It just looks freakin’ cool. I mean, how could it not be? You get to create pirates, soldies, corporations, miners and a whole bunch of other stuff. Then you get out there and blast the crap out of your opponents and then steal their stuff. Rock on! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bootsnakegames/deadrock-divide?ref=category

Fortis Rex: Rise of the King

Fortis Rex: Rise of the King

Hailing from Holly Springs, Mississippi – the development team behind Fortis Rex appear to already be eyeballs deep in production. The video on their crowd funding page shows some pretty impressive stuff. If you are into the Elder Scrolls titles, than this game might be worth your while to look at. There are very cool concepts afoot. Totally open-world and dynamic, it brings one thing to the table that The Elder Scrolls doesn’t. You can create, recruit and fully raise your own army that you can control in real-time on the battlefield. Add in horseback combat and several other very cool ideas and you have yourself the makings of a great Action RPG title. Check it out at: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fortis-rex-rise-of-the-king
