10 Reasons This Is the Best March in Gaming

10 Reasons This Is the Best March in Gaming

This is going to be an awesome month for gaming. There are a lot of titles coming out. Some are awesome, some are Battlefield . But no matter what your flavor of choice, you’ll have plenty to choose from in March. I tried to cover the ones that are poised to make the most waves this month in the wake of the EA super-giant. I have a serious hope that more than just Battlefield will be remembered as a March release this year, so I went through the confirmed list of stuff coming out this month and pulled some of the ones that I think will be worth taking a look at.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

I have been both on and off the Resident Evil wagon over the past few years. Ever since the Raccoon City debacle, it seems like the RE series hasn’t really caught a break until this year. The HD re-release of the first titles was a stellar remake. Now, with the release of the first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 , things are looking up. March, it seems, is going to be a big month for the franchise. Not one but two episodes will be released in March. So if you are into this game, be sure to grab them up. If you are not, but are even the least bit curious about it…buy them (as well as the first episode) and give them a go. If you’re a RE fan, you won’t be disappointed.

Helldivers

Helldivers

This game has been likened to a lot of things. But my favorite descriptions of it at this point are the Diablo -meets- Starship Troopers ones. It seems as though this tactical shooter is going to have a lot in common with games like Diablo . It follows the story of a dystopian future where humanity is ruled by a totalitarian governing body. Super Earth (the new home world of humanity) is now beset on all sides by races of all kinds that the government believes should be dealt with and subjugated. Initial reports are good and this game looks like it could truly be a lot of fun.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong – Tipping Stars

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong – Tipping Stars

Normally I don’t get too pumped up about handheld games. But when I found out that this intense little puzzler was going to be released on Wii U as well, I started listening. This is the sixth title in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series of games and from what I have read and seen so far, this is shaping up to be a great game filled with puzzly goodness. Being a huge fan of the puzzlers of yesteryear like Dr. Mario and Tetris , I have been kind of craving another good puzzle game lately. Hopefully this one will fill the bill.

Battlefield: Hardline

Battlefield: Hardline

This game puts the battlefield in….wait a minute. They did what? They took the battlefield out of Battlefield ? Wait…you’re a cop or a criminal in this one?! WTF?! Oh well, I liked Payday 2 and hopefully this game doesn’t suck. So you’re not a soldier this time, you can play cops and robbers online with all your buddies instead of in the school yard like when you were kids. Because if you did that now, people would definitely call the real cops and they’d probably have you committed to a nut house. So hats off to you, EA. You’re keeping grown-ass men out of school yards everywhere and giving them a place to play cops and robbers and and talk s#!t while they’re playing.

Mario Party 10

Mario Party 10

Full disclosure, I am a sucker for party games. Especially when they’re actually fun. For me, at least, there are times when I just want to mash buttons and laugh at the silliness playing out on my TV screen. There are times that I don’t really want to have to think about what I am doing, I just want to pass the time playing something fun. But then there are those even more rare occasions where one such game will suddenly make me realize that my competitive side has completely taken over. And so far on the WiiU, Game and Wario has been able to satisfy. But I am truly excited to see what Mario Party brings this time around.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne

Brought to you by the very same sons of b#tches that made me curse more than I ever have in a single gaming session ever. The same people who made me destroy the last good controller I had in a fit of murderous rage. The very same ones who created the most frustrating series of video games ever created by mere mortals (if they are, in fact, mortal and not a cesspool of demons hanging out and finding new and ingenious ways to torment us). Bloodborne is an upcoming action-RPG title from the a-holes at From Software. It looks like an awesome amalgamation of Devil May Cry and Dark Souls . Though I have sworn off their games after my violent fits during the blackest days of Demon Souls and Dark Souls battles, I remain cautiously optimistic that Bloodborne could be a great game. But hopefully one that doesn’t get the cops called on me… again.

Life is Strange (Episode 2)

Life is Strange (Episode 2)

Life Is Strange is a guilty pleasure of mine. Normally, I am not really all into these types of games. But this episodic game has got me intrigued and has managed to draw me in and hold my interest. Believe me when I say that’s a huge feat these days. I was a little miffed when I heard that the second episode had been delayed, but am now relieved to hear from the developer saying that Episode 2 is now on track. I’ll say this. If you are looking for something a little different, then start playing this game. But if you are anxiously awaiting Battlefield: Hardline this month, you should probably pass.

Slender: The Arrival

Slender: The Arrival

The follow-up title to Slender: Eight Pages , Arrival just looks creepy. Being the fan of the Fatal Frame series that I am, I was more than a little interested in Slender when the first game came out. After having played it, I was pleased overall, but wanted to see more. Hopefully, I will get just that with the arrival of…well, Arrival . If you like stories like Ju-On or The Ring and would love to see that type of mind-melting, psychological thriller come to video games, look no further. Slender is freakin’ terrifying. It actually managed to creep me out even more than P.T. and I wasn’t sure that was even possible.

Neverwinter

Neverwinter

I am not going to lie to you. The D&D nerd that has lain dormant for many years has awoken and now stirs at the thought of playing a Dungeons & Dragons game on the Xbox One. And not only will I be able to play it on a console, it will be MMO format, so all my other D&D brothers and sisters can get in on the action as well. The best part? We don’t have to argue about who is going to be the dungeon master and why he or she is a fit or unfit DM for the forthcoming game. But seeing as how it’s been a very long time since my last trip to Neverwinter , I am more than a little excited to get to see it fleshed out and right in front of me on a latest-gen console. I am hoping for greatness.

Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries

Woolfe – The Red Hood Diaries

I have no idea why I want to play this side-scrolling, platformer so much. I guess the only real thing I can say is that I loved American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns so much that I have this deep-seeded desire to see another twisted fairy tale come out for me to play through. From all appearances, my wait may be over. Obviously, this game is a side-scroller, so I am not expected stellar gameplay mechanics. It looks like your typical hack-and-slash platformer in that respect. But what I am looking forward to is how the story pans out. The visuals are well-developed and the concept of making it more than a little steampunk is also a big plus for me. So I’ll be giving it a go, and I guess if you all are interested in the same sorts of things, you can hit me up in the comments section and let me know your thoughts on it.
