The 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2016

The 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2016

The beautiful aspect about video games is that there’s always something better and more innovative coming down the pipeline. 2016 will be no exception as the gaming community gears up for another truckload of quality games to feed their harmless addiction. We know you’re still knee-deep in Fallout 4’ s massive open world and probably still wrecking fools in Black Ops III . Heck, you might even still be playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 in between Star Wars: Battlefront and Xenoblade Chronicles X . Actually no, scratch that last part because there isn’t a right-minded soul still playing that steaming pile of development failure that is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 , but you get the idea. Let’s pause for a moment and marvel at the most anticipated games of 2016.

Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4

Rise of the Tomb Raider for PS4

Lara Croft has been a staple of the Sony PlayStation for as long as most of us can remember. However, that wasn’t the case in 2015 when Rise of the Tomb Raider launched exclusively on the Xbox One. To make matters more confusing, the game was released on the exact same day as Fallout 4 , which just happened to be the most anticipated release of the year. Early 2016 will see the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider for PC, and it will come to the PS4 late that year. Let’s hope Lara Croft looks just as epic on the PS4 as she did on the Xbox One.

Zelda for Wii U

Zelda for Wii U

Zelda for the Wii U could easily land in my top spot, but I’m not entirely convinced the game will drop in 2016. The initial launch was mysteriously pushed back for unexplained reasons which saw Nintendo lose out on the potential revenue generated from 2015’s holiday rush. If and when Zelda hits retail shelves, it should come with an enormous following and an equally enormous amount of build up in the process. Let’s hope Link makes an appearance in 2016.

Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet & Clank

I hate to throw so many PS4 exclusives on the list, but each one of them is deserving of the hyp e, and Ratchet & Clank is no exception. The reemergence of our favorite furry protagonist and his robotic sidekick is exactly what PS4 gamers need in 2016. The best part about Ratchet & Clank ’s PS4 debut is that the game isn’t a remastered version of the older titles, but rather an entirely new offering for gamers to adore all over again.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Ghost Recon: Wildlands looks and feels exactly how a Ghost Recon game should. Stealth, intuitive movements, and an arsenal of real-world weapons will be at your disposal in 2016. However, the franchise’s long-awaited next-gen transition will be backed by an all new open-world environment that will certainly rival the likes of both GTA V and Just Cause 3 . If you haven’t played the previous versions, then you’re in for one heck of a treat, especially since the game will come packed with loads of new abilities and a few surprises along the way.

For Honor

For Honor

For Honor is one of those games that only comes around every decade or so, because it’s just that unique. Players are thrust into what looks like a fierce medieval battle of hacking and slashing with no regard given to anything but destroying the enemy looking to capture your tower. Ubisoft has finally given players a multiplayer testosterone-infused version of Assassin’s Creed that centers more around engaging in combat than evading it. For Honor should feed your inner warrior with its impressive battles and stunning visuals.

DOOM

DOOM

DOOM will finally make its next-gen debut sometime in the first half of 2016. Bethesda wowed gamers at E3 with a terrifyingly epic look at the resurrected first-person platform of destruction. Don’t get it twisted though, my friends, this isn’t a rehashing of your favorite ’90s shooter. Rather, it’s an entirely fresh take on a game that many of us remember oh so fondly. Who am I kidding? This is Doom and you will certainly be mowing down monsters, the undead, and anything else that crosses your path like you did so many years ago.

Hitman

Hitman

Square Enix should be on pace for a solid year in 2016, especially if Hitman can deliver as it has in the past. The 2016 version will feature some impressive new upgrades for our buddy Agent 47 along with a wealth of options for completing each assassination mission. 47 will now have the option to track down information on a specific targets though interactions such as reading the newspaper or eavesdropping on character conversations. This should bode well for certain players as specific missions will only appear once and will disappear forever if not completed.

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV is the definition of being stuck in development hell. Square Enix has been developing this action RPG for nearly ten years and it’s finally set to release across just about any and every platform the publisher can get its hands on. Square Enix, in hilarious publisher fashion, has announced an announcement regarding the game for some time in mid-January of 2016. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but one thing’s for sure – loyal Final Fantasy gamers can’t wait to get their hands on this one, even if it’s far later than anticipated.

ReCore

ReCore

This Xbox One exclusive looks to shake up the landscape in 2016 with its groundbreaking landscape mechanics that alter the terrain as players journey deeper into the open world – simulating realistic situations. ReCore, developed by Keiji Inafune and the developers of Metroid Prime, puts players in control of a female protagonist who just so happens to be one of the last remaining humans on an alien planet. ReCore looked amazing at E3 and should shape up to be a top ten release in 2016.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

My top spot is rightfully claimed by Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End . The PlayStation 4 exclusive might not turn out to be the best game of 2016, but after its 2015 holiday delay and the fact this could be Nathan Drake’s final act, gamers will be lining up on release day for this one. The title is said to pick up three years after Uncharted 3 , where a retired Nathan Drake is pulled back into action at the call of his older brother, Sam, in search of more lost treasure. 2016 should be a solid year for Naughty Dog with the reemergence of our old pal, Drake.
