Top 10 Raddest Remasters to Ever Be Re-Released!

Top 10 Raddest Remasters to Ever Be Re-Released!

I recently had the opportunity to review the remastered version of Capcom’s Resident Evil Zero and I have to say, I really wish I hadn’t. I was all geeked out to spend some quality time with an old school classic from the early 2000’s. Instead, I was left with an untouched rerelease of a frustrating game that still has me shaking my head in disappointment. Rather than paint the town red with my anger, I’ve decided to channel my aggression into something more positive. Thus, I bring you the CheatCC’s top ten greatest remastered games of all time.

Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime

Samus Aran is an absolute beast in just about any platform she arrives on. The same can be said for her jump from the Nintendo GameCube to the Nintendo Wii in the Metroid Prime releases. Updated visuals and controls were more than enough to have gamers jumping back into the shoes of Samus and her epic arm cannon.

Metro 2033: Redux

Metro 2033: Redux

Metro 2033: Redux is the remastered Xbox One and PS4 version of the original Metro 2033 from 2010. The first-person shooter was equally as dark and fascinating as the first one and even came with a few nice additions to add to players’ enjoyment. The game would have been an easy port by developer THQ to make the jump to the next-gen console but they knew better than to offer a rehashed version of the initial release and blew us away with the additional content.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is an impressive remake of the original The Binding of Isaac that introduces new characters, chapters, enemies, consumables, and map components. The remastered version is essentially an entirely new offering from the previous version as the game had to be completely revamped in order to be suitable for this generation of systems. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is definitely one remastered game that should be on your list for 2016.

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus

Shadow of the Colossus was a groundbreaking game of its time when it landed on the PS2 way back when. What’s more impressive is that the developers managed to replicate this experience a number of years later on the PS3. The game was certainly a playable piece of art during its time and the remastered version left an equal impression on gamers. Yes, this one should certainly be in your library – either the PS2 or PS3 version will suffice.

Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D

Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D landed on Nintendo’s 3DS early last year and it was absolutely stellar to relive Nintendo’s glory days. The title came packed with a nice set of visual upgrades that actually look like a decent amount of thought went into the redesign, touchscreen capabilities, and map alterations – with a few added surprises along the way as well.

Journey

Journey

The remastered version of Journey from the PS3 to the PS4 was done surprisingly well. The amazing part isn’t the fact that the game looks great in full HD, but rather the developer’s ability to replicate the exact emotions that were instilled within gamers back in 2002. Journey is definitely worth a second look on the PS4 and should bring with it a new crowd of fans to lose their hearts to this unique game.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is probably one of the most underrated remakes simply because it pushes the boundaries of the content it provides. The game’s second release is just as grueling as the initial debut and contains gameplay additions that are designed to make even hardened veterans rethink their strategy. Of course the visuals look fantastic, but the real meat of why this game lands on our list is the expanded content and the stellar DLC that is bundled with it.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

You couldn’t possibly have a top ten remastered games list without Halo: The Master Chief Collection , which released exclusively for the Xbox One last year, had the most insane amount of content ever – four titles, years of DLC, and every bit of fun you can conjure up from the old days was included. The titles were all beautifully redone with an impressive amount of redesign that went into the collection.

The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered i s by far one of my favorite games of all time. Not only did developer Naughty Dog successfully transition one the most compelling cinematic games of all time to the current generation of consoles, but they also managed to inject some new life into the title and bundled it with its equally compelling DLC, Left Behind . This one is definitely worth your purchase, even if it’s a second time around.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V

It’s easy to overlook GTA V as a remastered titled because of its short release time. However, when Rockstar brought the title over to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, it came with a truckload of additional content. Not only did the game contain all the previous GTA V DLC content, but it also contained a bunch of new weapons, vehicles, map tweaks, and an entirely new first-person mode.
