Love it or hate it, online multiplayer gaming has cemented itself in the very fabric of the medium, especially in the shooter genre. And while games get better and better at delivering this pulse-pounding gameplay, the kill moments that come from them continue to escalate as well, creating insane bloodbaths and mass destructions on an epic scale.
YouTube is absolutely flooded with videos showing players being crushed, shot, stabbed, blown up, liquefied, ran over, vaporized, and (for all intents and purposes) utterly erased from their digital playground. Here are ten of the best multiplayer kills we could find. Enjoy.
Unreal Tournament III – Vehicle Crush
This player is painfully reminded that vehicles are heavy, and if one is dropped on your head, your life expectancy drops to zero. It just goes to show that you can never stop in the fast-paced world of competitive multiplayer gaming, or someone will quite literally crush you and show the world how lame you are on YouTube.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Quad Sniper Kill
Snipers are probably the most loathed of all playable multiplayer characters. Continuously accused of camping, these crack shots can make your play session a living hell, especially if you were part of the squad this guy took out with a single bullet . I just wish I could have been there to hear the reaction of those slain by this amazing shot. I’m sure the term “hacker” and “cheater” were thrown around, among other choice words. It would have been priceless.
Gears of War 3 – ‘Splosion!
There’s nothing like letting the enemy think they have the upper hand, only to decimate them just before they succeed at taking you out. Pinned down and near death, this player activates a placed device and achieves “explosive” results. It just goes to show you, if you don’t pay attention to your surroundings, you might end up as a pile of sticky goo.
Battlefield 3 – RendeZook!
Without question, this has to be one of the most amazing kills ever achieved, as well as one of the most humiliating ways to die in online gaming. If you’ve never seen this before, it may take a couple of watches to understand what just transpired on your screen, so take your time and watch it again if needed. In fact, this specific kill type is so epic it made it into the urban dictionary. Man, do I feel sorry for the guy on the other end of that RPG.
Halo 4 – Sticky Detonator Triple Kill
You can call it you want – skill, luck, or divine intervention – whatever you like. But there is no denying that this triple kill must have been soul-crushing for the players caught on the other end of it. These guys were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, but for the shooter, things couldn’t have lined up better.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Sniper Ricochet
It’s one thing to be killed by a sniper with an impossible shot. It is another thing entirely to get taken out by a sniper when he isn’t even shooting at you. But when you’re not even in his field of view, it’s just ridiculous. This sniper shot ricochet shut the victim up immediately, and rightly so. Also, there is a bonus clip here where someone actually avoids death by jumping over a hunter-killer drone.
Battlefield 3 – Epic Knife
There are a million ways to die an online death, but none of them are quite as degrading as being knifed. In Battlefield 3, animated knife sequences make you feel like a badass when you get one, and like a total loser when you’re on the receiving end. Not to mention that in this video, the killer takes a jet ride to the top of a radio tower, parachutes in, and catches the camping sniper completely unaware. For him to go to all this trouble, I can’t help but think this sniper had taken one too many shots at this guy. Stupid sniper.
Team Fortress 2 – Multi-Kill!!!!
It’s happened to all of us. You take someone out, but not before they get off a final shot that takes you down as well. However, what probably hasn’t happened to all of us is getting a rocket shot off just before death that delivers an entire platform of enemies into the great gaming beyond. You have to watch this one to the end for the payoff, but it’s worth it.
Counter-Strike: Source – Last Man Standing
Counter-Strike helped to pave the way for the competitive multiplayer gaming. In CS, nothing is quite as satisfying (or intense) as being the last player on your team and saving the round. In this instance, however, the last player standing has four opponents left AND is playing in the final round of a championship. Nerves of steel? I think so.
Battlefield 3 – Pilot Sniping
Dealing with choppers in Battlefield 3 can be a nuisance, but this video makes dispatching your flying foes look easy. There are a few clips in this video, but I would like to call your attention to the sniper shots from the ground, through a tree, on a moving target…TWICE IN A ROW! What separates this from most other pilot sniping videos is that it’s clearly not staged. Amazing.
