Top 7 Gaming Exclusives That REALLY Hurt

Top 7 Gaming Exclusives That REALLY Hurt

Exclusives sell consoles. It’s something we all expect. We base our buying decisions. But, that doesn’t mean it hurts any less when something that might have been highly anticipated, critical to a multiplatform IP’s success, or been really cool turn out to be limited to one platform. It happens all the time. But certain games really hurt when they end up locked away. These are seven that hurt the most.

Saints Row

Saints Row

This may be difficult to believe, considering how ubiquitous the Saints Row series is now, but it was once an exclusive! Originally, the first installment was being developed for the PlayStation 2. It didn’t pan out, and it turned into an Xbox 360 game instead. Well, it was also on phones in Europe, but worldwide it was only on one console. The madcap and hilarious gameplay took off, and now we live in a world where the Saints Row: The Third is on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and Saints Row IV showed up on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.

Tetris Effect

Tetris Effect

Tetris Effect is one of the best Tetris games ever. It is such a different experience, with so many modes that offer so much. The soundtrack is incredible. The gameplay is immersive. It lets you get into the puzzles with PSVR compatibility. However, it is a PS4 exclusive. Which means only people with one system get what could be the most artistic installment.

Titanfall

Titanfall

This is an exclusive where the company know it did wrong and paid the price. The first game, though great, was only available on Microsoft platforms. That means the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC were the only way to play. Worse, it was a multiplayer-only title with no single-player campaign. It faltered. Which led to Titanfall 2 being multiplatform and having a (fantastic) campaign.

Persona 5

Persona 5

Persona 5 is an exclusive tragedy because there were teases suggesting a Nintendo Switch port. First, we heard rumors about Persona 5 R. It turned out to be an expanded version of the original game for the PS4. Then, we still had Persona 5 S. People figured the S was for Switch. Except it isn’t. It is for Persona 5 Scramble, a Dynasty Warriors-s tyle game for the PS4… and the Switch. Ouch.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel games are huge. People you wouldn’t expect are getting into superheroes, thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, most Marvel games have been multiplatform affairs. Except Marvel’s Spider-Man , what could be the best Spider-Man game ever, is a PlayStation 4 exclusive. It is a great game, but a crying shame.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy is a multiplatform series now. Past entries, like Final Fantasy VII , found their way to the Switch, Xbox One, and PC. New entries, like Final Fantasy XV , showed up in different forms on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, and mobile devices. So it only makes sense that the ephemeral Final Fantasy VII Remake is going to be a PS4-exclusive. Right? Wrong.

Kingdom Hearts: The Story so Far

Kingdom Hearts: The Story so Far

Kingdom Hearts as a whole has almost always been a Sony exclusive. Yes, some side stories showed up on the DS, 3DS, and mobile devices, but the ones that mattered were on the PS2, PS3, and PSP. Except Kingdom Hearts 3 came to the PS4 and Xbox One with no background for Xbox One owners. Oh, but PS4 people received Kingdom Hearts: The Story so Far, the ultimate refresher with all the HD compilations that mattered, ahead of its launch. That’s very unfair.
